WWOOF Australia and Help Exchange (Help X)

Papa Organics hosts volunteers from the WWOOF Organisation (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) and Help Exchange looking for work opportunities and accommodation. We have been very fortunate to host many people from around the world, sharing the benefits of cultural exchanges and experiencing the organic lifestyle. These opportunities help us improve productivity and we are able to assist individuals and families who are looking to immigrate to Australia.

Oz Harvest

We partner with Oz Harvest to help tackle food wastage and assist people in need. Some of our produce, which is still very high quality but may be slightly marked or not visually to the standard of retailers, is donated to Oz Harvest.

Together with Oz Harvest, we are passionate about minimising food waste and protecting our environment for future generations in Australia because:

  • The Government estimates food waste costs the Australian economy $20 billion each year.
  • Over 5 million tonnes of food ends up as landfill, enough to fill 9,000 Olympic sized swimming pools.
  • One in five shopping bags end up in the bin = $3,800 worth of groceries per household each year.
  • 35% of the average household bin is food waste.
  • Nearly four million people experience food insecurity each year, one quarter are children.
  • Over 710,000 people rely on food relief each month, one quarter are children.
  • Regional and remote communities are being hit the hardest and are a third more likely to experience food insecurity than those living in capital cities.
